In 2023, Pakistan experienced an exceptional surge in sesame seed shipments to China, establishing the country as a critical player in the global sesame seed market. Ghulam Qadir, the Commercial Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, noted that Chinese consumers increasingly favor the quality and flavor of Pakistani sesame.
According to Qadir, Pakistan’s Sesamum seed exports to China from January to November 2023 reached $250.85 million, exhibiting a remarkable growth of over 112% compared to $117.85 million in the same period the previous year. The total Sesamum seed exports from Pakistan to China in 2022 amounted to $128.44 million; in 2021, it was $120.44 million.
Qadir further detailed that Sesamum seeds exported to China surged to 143,527.875 tons from January to November 2023, compared to 84,985.321 tons in 2022. Notably, China imported 92,516.55 tons in 2021, establishing itself as a prominent destination for Sesamum seed exports from Pakistan. This significant growth underscores Pakistani sesame seeds’ expanding market presence and success in China.
