Australia has launched a new visa program aimed at attracting skilled workers to critical industries, replacing the former Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa with the Skills in Demand (SID) visa. This updated visa offers clearer pathways for professionals seeking to live and work in Australia. The SID visa is divided into three distinct streams:
- Specialist Skills Pathway: Targeted at top-tier professionals to drive innovation and economic growth.
- Core Skills Pathway: Focused on addressing workforce needs in priority sectors.
- Essential Skills Pathway: Tailored for industry-specific agreements, with further details yet to be released.
To streamline the process, Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has reduced the work experience requirement to just one year, easing the path for skilled workers to apply for permanent residency. Applicants must also meet specific English language proficiency standards.
The Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) includes over 450 jobs across sectors like healthcare, construction, and technology, with salary thresholds for the SID visa ranging from AUD 70,000 to AUD 135,000. Professionals earning above AUD 135,000 may qualify for the Specialist Skills Pathway.
