Former US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order making English the official language of the United States.
Under this directive, government agencies and federally funded organizations now have the discretion to decide whether to provide documents and services in languages other than English.
The order overturns a policy introduced by former President Bill Clinton in 2000, which required such entities to offer language assistance to non-English speakers.
According to the executive order, “Establishing English as the official language will not only enhance communication efficiency but also strengthen national unity and streamline governmental operations.”
This marks the first time in nearly 250 years that the US has officially designated an official language at the federal level.
