Ten years after the launch of CPEC and following 78 review meetings, Gwadar continues to struggle with fundamental infrastructure issues, including a lack of clean water and stable electricity.
At the latest review meeting, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal criticized the slow progress in connecting Gwadar to Pakistan’s national grid and demanded urgent updates. Despite previous directives, the city still relies on imported electricity from Iran, while its desalination plant remains non-operational, worsening the water shortage.
Although China has supplied thousands of solar panels and filtration plants, their distribution has been delayed. With the 14th JCC meeting set for July 2025, Pakistan is seeking stronger diplomatic and technical cooperation with China to resolve ongoing infrastructure failures, particularly in the energy and transport sectors.
