The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has implemented a new rule requiring Pakistanis travelling overseas for employment to submit an affidavit signed by a Grade 18 or 19 government officer, according to The Express Tribune.
The affidavit confirms that the traveller will work only at their designated place of employment and will not attempt to enter Europe illegally. Within the first week of enforcement, FIA teams reportedly offloaded nearly 150 passengers from flights at Lahore and other airports for failing to present the document.
An FIA officer explained that the decision follows multiple cases of individuals travelling to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, or Thailand, later attempting to reach Europe via Libya or Baku.
Only passengers with verified affidavits are now being allowed to board. The Protectorate of Emigrants has deployed inspectors at airports to assist genuine workers.
While passengers using the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) face fewer delays, those linked with private recruitment agencies experience longer verification times. However, many travellers have criticised the rule as unnecessary and burdensome, especially for those holding valid visas and documentation.
